We run through long grass, wild hair—
hooves clapping, dust rising.
Dry sun. Wheat unharvested.
Heat of my hide, steaming.
Speckled. Untamed.
Stallion and mare.
Water ahead, trickling,
green breaking land.
Thirst takes me—
nostrils flare, breath huff.
Our sides brush—
intimate, close.
Steady.
