I do not know much about professional athletes, to be honest. What I do know is this: there are men and women who wake up each morning, rain or shine, at 4 or 5 a.m. to run before starting their day. That is a level of commitment I truly admire and appreciate. They are superstars who inspire me.
The couples who walk together before or after dinner with their small children always warm my heart when I see them. Now that I have my own child, I know that is no small feat.
If I spot bikers out here in the mountains, I know they are serious athletes too. With all the steep hills and winding roads, it is a real climb and descent. They usually come in groups once the sun is up.
Then there are the cowboys and cowgirls who rise at the crack of dawn. That is no myth out here. I love the moments when I catch sight of them moving cattle from pasture to pasture. And if you do not know, riding horses works every muscle in your body. So does farm life.
I really love the community around me, and I admire the way people choose to live and thrive out here in the mountains.
