In the springtime
wild strawberries laced the earth
vining with tiny white flowers
yellow centered.

The mini strawberries
were much sweeter
than the larger berries
people grow in gardens.

Laying on our bellies,
my brother and sister and I
became juice drunk
off the sugared sun
shaped in little red cones

over ragged leaves
spidering across the backyard.
