I used to be terrified of death and anything related to it. I met that fear head-on by devoting myself to Saint Death, and through that devotion, I learned reverence for death itself. I learned to choose in ways that align with life, and to understand that there is peace in endings as well as immeasurable love.
Some of my loved ones are no longer suffering or carrying the weight of life’s rigors, and that brings me relief at times. I feel grateful for the beautiful job they did of simply enduring. Their lives were not easy, but when I stop and truly think about it, there is something breathtaking about the way they completed their life journeys. I am here because they did.
The cemetery became a place that could hold space for my grief. I made it a daily ritual to visit, and a few spirits there touched my life deeply. We helped each other heal in quiet, mutual ways.
I am not much of a city person. I love my local cemetery. I find peace and acceptance there. Things end. Life ends. And that feels peaceful and hopeful to me.

For me, devotion to a saint of death is about reverence. I offer flowers or a candle, visit the cemetery with intention, remember my loved ones, and let the reality of endings teach me to live more fully. In Hindu traditions people honor Yama, Kali, Shiva, or their ancestors in similar ways with respect and gratitude. Devotion is personal and develops most authentically from the heart, so it is about finding what resonates with you.

Beautiful thought on the subject
I hold Death in reverence myself but am not a worshiper.

Wise. I am devoted to Her, but not a worshiper, no. She would direct me straight to God if I were to begin to worship Her. She is an uncanonized Saint of the people, a Mexican folk Saint.
